Many surgical physician assistants work in the field of orthopedics as an orthopedic physician assistant. From what I have seen, physician assistant pay increases if the physician assistant (also referred to as a physician associate) works in surgery. Many of the physician assistant jobs that are out there are in orthopedics, as well as other surgery specialties. If a practice or hospital is considering hiring a physician assistant, they will be competing with physician assistant jobs across the spectrum, not just in their specialty. For many physician assistants, employment across specialties is possible, given the experience they gain while in school. As I was doing research for orthopedic physician assistant jobs in Houston I happened to come across data posted on Indeed for orthopedic physician assistant salaries in the area. Here are the data I came across:

• Physician Assistant Orthopedic in Houston, TX - $103,000
• Nurse Practitioner Orthopedic in Houston, TX - $100,000
• Physicians Assistant Orthopaedic in Houston, TX - $105,000
• Physician Assistant Orthopedic PA in Houston, TX - $101,000
• Physician Assistant Ortho in Houston, TX -$94,000
• Physician Assistant Orthopaedic PA in Houston, TX - $52,000

Now if you’ve ever done a salary search within Indeed you will find that these are estimates and not the actual salaries being offered by the practice opportunities. This is why you see such a large gap between the highest of $103,000 and the lowest at $52,000.

In the Houston area we have experienced salaries starting at $90,000 with bonuses offering a total potential of well over $100,000. Depending on the experience of the physician assistant practicing in orthopaedics I’ve seen compensation packages offered on the higher end around $115,000. A typical compensation plan would begin with a salary around $100,000 and bonus potential of an additional $10,000 - $20,000.

Orthopedic Physician Assistant - Little Rock, AR

We are an incredibly busy specialty orthopedic surgery practice in need of an experienced surgical physician assistant.  We work hard and we play hard and are looking for a like-minded individual.  You will be assisting in surgeries and also seeing patients in the clinic.  The typical day is from 8-6 with Fridays spent in the clinic while the physician is doing scopes.  This is a total joint position with a physician with a reputation that crosses state lines.  Patients from a 4 state area drive to see him.  He can see over 100 patients in a week and do close to 700 total joint operations in a year.
